Save Our Schools NJ is a nonpartisan, grassroots, all-volunteer organization of parents and other concerned residents who believe that all New Jersey children should have access to a high quality public education.

Save Our Schools NJ began as a successful effort to pass a local school budget. It quickly became clear that it will take many voices across the entire state to ensure that our children’s education is not compromised to political or ideological objectives. Thus, what was an ad hoc movement has grown into Save Our Schools NJ, and our membership has grown to include thousands of public school supporters, across all of New Jersey’s 40 legislative districts.

Save Our Schools NJ’s goals are to preserve and protect New Jersey’s excellent public schools by:

  • Establishing a statewide network of individuals willing to let politicians know they support public schools
  • Keeping the community at large and our legislators informed about issues and legislation that directly impact our children’s education, both locally and at the state level

OUR POLICY AGENDA

We support:

  1. Fully funding the school funding formula, so that every child can have access to a high-quality public education
  2. Local community control over the establishment of new charter schools
  3. Greater accountability and transparency of charter school finances and educational performance

We oppose:

  • Reductions in State resources that support high-quality education for every child
  • Taxpayer funded vouchers that pay for private or religious education
  • Creation of new charter schools if those schools are not wanted by their host communities
  • Segregation of children between traditional public schools and charter schools on the basis of income, English proficiency, or special needs
  • Use of for-profit companies to manage public schools

SAVE OUR SCHOLS NJ STATEMENT ON SCHOOL CHOICE

We support public school choices that

  • Ensure every child has access to a high-quality public school education;
  • Are democratically controlled by local communities;
  • Do not segregate or discriminate against our children on the basis of income, English proficiency, special needs, race, gender, religion or sexual preference;
  • Are transparent in the sources and uses of their funding and in their educational outcomes.
